Hello and welcome to my website

My aim is to take you with me on my travels wherever that may be within Australia or overseas, and to give you the tips and information I pick up along the way to make your own travels as smooth and successful as possible. I want to inspire you to enjoy what the world has to offer.

I’m a free and independent traveller. That doesn’t mean I completely shun the notion of tours, organised experiences or group adventures. They all have a time and place. But what it does mean is that as a free and independent traveller I have the choice of when and where to go, and whether it’s in a group or not. Very often it will be a mix.

The other defining aspect of my travel writing is that I’m passionate about food, wine and people. To me, it’s all about the experiences.

More often than not, you’re likely to find me in a place a little off the beaten track. No, that doesn’t mean intrepid jungle safaris or extreme wildlife adventures. It means that I will always be looking for ways to experience the life and culture of a place in an authentic way; a way that might give me that elusive “feel” for a town, village or city.

It might mean I’m staying in a small nearby town instead of being in the centre of the iconic tourist city, or it might mean that even if I’m actually in the middle of that tourist mecca I will be looking for ways to experience the local life in new and interesting ways.

At other times, I might be in a tiny village never listed on the coach tour itineraries, as far away from the tourist centre as you can get. Or I might be somewhere that is a gem for local tourists rather than international visitors.

Another thing I like to do is to find alternative destinations: places that provide the same idyllic climate, awe inspiring scenery, interesting shopping and spine-tingling history as that offered by renowned destinations – but you won’t necessarily see them in normal guide books.

Sometimes I will travel with my husband, Bruce; on other occasions I might travel solo, and on others I might be with family or a group of friends.

I look forward to sharing my travel experiences and hope you enjoy the trip. Above all, I hope I inspire you to reach out for the best that free and independent travelling has to offer.

Safe travels
