Riding with Italy’s almost extinct cattle herders is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it’s disappearing fast.

There used to be thousands of them, but today there are only a few dozen. In an isolated and little known corner of Tuscany there are a few remaining farms where you can take part in an authentic early morning ride. Cracking whips, stamping horse hooves, flaring nostrils and swirling dust backlit by the rising sun are all part of the immersive experience as you head out to the wilderness with these professional herdsmen.
